There are restaurants you visit, and then there are restaurants that stay with you forever. Zlatne Gorice is firmly in the second category. I stumbled upon this winery restaurant tucked into the Croatian hills, and I'm still dreaming about it weeks later.

The Setting

Let me paint you a picture: rolling green hills stretching to the horizon, rows of perfectly tended vineyards catching the afternoon light, and you, sitting under a gorgeous outdoor gazebo with a glass of local wine in hand. During my visit in late summer, I was completely mesmerized by the landscape. It's the kind of place where you'll want to linger long after your meal is finished.

The Food

The menu here is a love letter to Croatian tradition, with grilled meats taking center stage. Everything is sourced locally, and you can taste the difference. I absolutely have to recommend the Hussar's Steak – it's their signature dish for good reason. Topped with house-made bacon, smoked ham, caramelized onion, and a kick of red chili, it's bold, hearty, and utterly delicious.
