Tucked away in the courtyard of Zagreb's youth theatre (ZKM), Theatrium by Filho is one of those magical finds that makes exploring this city so rewarding. I stumbled upon this gem on a warm summer evening, and I was immediately captivated by its youthful energy and bold, retro-inspired aesthetic.

The Setting

The restaurant's open-view kitchen adds a theatrical element to your dining experience – fitting, given its location. While the interior is striking with its vibrant color scheme, I'd highly recommend snagging a table on the veranda. There's something utterly enchanting about dining al fresco in this intimate courtyard, especially during the warmer months.

The Food

The menu is an exciting journey through French and Italian classics, thoughtfully interwoven with Croatian influences. I started with fresh Adriatic fish – pristine and simply prepared – before indulging in their legendary Beef Wellington. It's considered the chef's crown jewel, and after one bite, I understood why. The pastry was golden and flaky, the beef perfectly pink.

The Wine

Don't overlook the wine list! It's a beautiful showcase of Croatian labels from every corner of the country. I was thrilled when our server guided me toward a few local discoveries I'd never have found on my own.
