Konoba Mate

A Hidden Gem in the Hills of Korčula
Tucked away in the sleepy village of Pupnat, just 10 kilometers from Korčula town, Konoba Mate is the kind of place that makes you fall in love with Croatian hospitality. I stumbled upon this family-run treasure during one of my island explorations, and I'm so glad I made the detour.
Farm-to-Table Before It Was Trendy
What sets Konoba Mate apart is that almost everything on your plate comes directly from the family's own hands. The charcuterie is cured on-site, the goat's cheese ages in their cellar, and the vegetables come straight from their garden. Even the wine and olive oil are locally sourced. You can truly taste the love and generations of tradition in every bite.
The Star of the Show
If you order nothing else, you must try the home-made ravioli with goat's cheese and sage sauce. I've eaten pasta across Italy and Croatia, and these delicate pillows of goodness rank among the very best I've ever tasted. Pair it with a glass of local wine, and you've found culinary heaven.
An Atmosphere Worth Savoring
The covered terrace creates an enchanting dining experience—solid wooden tables, soft lantern light, and the peaceful sounds of village life. It's the perfect setting for a long, leisurely meal. The family's warmth makes you feel less like a tourist and more like a welcomed guest.
My advice? Rent a car, embrace the winding roads, and let Konoba Mate reward your sense of adventure.
