There's something magical about eating fish that was swimming in the very river you're gazing at. That's exactly the experience I found at Dunav, a charming restaurant nestled on the banks of Croatia's stretch of the mighty Danube.

The Setting

I was immediately drawn to the outdoor terrace, where the gentle flow of the Danube creates the perfect backdrop for a leisurely meal. On a warm summer evening, there's nowhere else I'd rather be. The atmosphere is relaxed yet refined – exactly what you want when you're escaping the usual tourist crowds.

The Food

The menu here celebrates the river's bounty. I couldn't resist the grilled zander, which arrived perfectly cooked with a delicate, flaky texture. The catfish fillets in white wine sauce were equally impressive – rich, aromatic, and clearly prepared with care. This is honest, river-to-table cooking at its finest.

Save Room for Dessert

Whatever you do, don't skip dessert! I was completely enchanted by the šnenokle – Croatia's answer to the French île flottante – light meringue clouds floating on silky custard. The taške, little pastries bursting with jam, are equally irresistible.
